Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club survives and is successful on the back of our volunteers. We do not employ anyone. All GLYC functions, regattas and regular sailing programs are organised and run by Club members and without their support we would not exist.
We call upon our members to assist with all programs and we welcome non-members who are interested in being involved with events and functions.
Members and friends can volunteer to assist in a variety of ways:-
Sail Training programs: a range of programs are conducted throughout the summer sailing season. Assistance is required in a range of aspects both on and off water. Because many of our trainees are children, all volunteers are required to hold a Working With Children Check (free for volunteers)
Sailability: a program that is conducted during school terms 1 and 4 (October through to April) whereby children and adults with all abilities can enjoy a sailing experience in sheltered waters. (Working with Children Check is again a requirement)
Course Laying and Rescue boat operations: for each and every yacht race – Tuesday evenings, Sunday afternoons, various class regattas and our own long distance races and regattas, we need volunteers on-water to assist with race management.
Off-water support: general assistance around the club on race days – everything from heating after race snacks to radio operations!
Catering: we have two bars and a fully commercial kitchen and we are always looking for bar staff and kitchen hands to cook and clean-up for our various functions.
If you would like more information about any of these roles, or would like to volunteer, please contact any of the following club officials:
Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer (current name and contact details can be found on the website) or speak to any Committee member at the Club.
